River Ready
Are you River Ready?
The River Ready Program is a hands-on, introductory river safety experience designed to teach youth ages 10-14 the fundamentals of safe movement in and around moving water. Participants will learn essential safety skills, basic rescue awareness, and beginner bodyboarding and swimming techniques in a fun, supportive environment.
What to Expect.
Build awareness of river hazards and safety practices
Develop confidence in moving water
Teach proper use of personal safety equipment (PFDs, helmets)
Introduce basic self-rescue and swimming techniques
Promote responsible recreation and teamwork
By the end of the session, participants will be able to:
Properly fit and check a life jacket (PFD)
Identify key river hazards (rocks, strainers, currents)
Demonstrate defensive and aggressive swimming positions
Perform basic self-rescue techniques
Show safe behavior and communication in a river setting
Demonstrate introductory bodyboarding skills
Who Should Attend.
This program is designed for kids ages 10-14 who do not have whitewater experience.
What should I bring?
Participants should be dressed appropriately for river play, including water shoes. Bring a water bottle, towel, and sunscreen. PFD’s will be provided.
